BLOAT COLLECTIVE
BLOAT Collective comprises 5 multidisciplinary artists; collectively cultivating a fine art practice through democratic association. At its core, the collective celebrate shared action communication and companionship. This is a concept that we navigate by way of consciously removing the individual via experimental communicative strategies and performative activity. Revealing this process through installation,publication, photography and film.

In BLOAT Collective’s film, Bad Vöslau (2017), five unnamed figures unite in the land, moving together as a singular link allying both an extraterrestrial and nostalgic depiction of body and land. The making of Bad Vöslau became the archetypical moment in BLOAT realising the potential of collective practice. ‘Bad Vöslau’ articulates a theory found in the landscape and body via intuitive action, labour and companionship.

Collective Ending presents BLO.ATT, an exhibition of two collectives BLOAT and ALL TERRAIN TRAINING (ATT).
BLOAT presents footage from their residency in Yorkshire (2020) exploring sites of historical and natural significance within the Peak District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales. Understanding the transformative potential of collective knowledge, they started by exchanging research on land access, Right to Roam, symbology of uniform, psychogeography and folklore. The residency became a playful topographical study and the naive act of wandering became a means of investigation. Recalling playground activities from childhood, BLOAT considers this first moment of learning how to engage in a group as crucial in developing an understanding of how to adapt, listen and support those around you. Footage documented in multiple angels and cameras, and presented on a multi screen installation as seen above.
